You are created, and then recreated.
A woman, who was made by a rib.
She was founded by the support of the man.
The moment she took her first breath, she was special.
God favored her, shaped her in his image.
She bore children, and raised her family.
She taught her daughter to be fierce.
She was the true backbone of her family.
She redefined strength when her hips cracked, she tore and she birthed a child.
She names her son after the father, but she is his first bond.
She remained hungry many nights, but her children knew a good childhood.
She worked while the city was at rest.
She never complained and always thanked God.
She had a daughter, and then another.
She taught them how to love.
Her ancestors picked cotton and shared land.
Her grandfather moved his family North for better life in 1973.
He started his “new life” with two children, a wife and $20.
She was raised in the North and 26 years later, gave birth to me.
I carry her strength.
Everything she touches becomes gold.
